NESPRESSO _ Romont _ Switzerland
Nestlé Nespresso SA has decided to build its third coffee production center in Romont in the canton of Fribourg. In the coming years with this new infrastructure, Nespresso will be able to respond to the growing demand of its highest quality coffee by its worldwide consumers.
This production center will transform the highest green coffee into the Grandes Crus of Nespresso coffee.
The site will include production lines, roasting areas, silos to store green coffee and roasted coffee, an unloading area of green coffee, storage areas for packaging materials and dispatch of goods. Related activities will take part on site, such as administration and laboratories.
To ensure flexibility in the coming years, Nespresso is given the opportunity to develop its Romont production site based on consumer demands of its Grands Crus. This extension is an integral part of the construction project and is included in the architectural plans and the production center building.
The production center will be connected to the existing network for the transport of goods.
Sustainable construction and operations
Sustainability is a strategic element of the new production center in Romont. The design, construction and operation of this infrastructure is part of the single sustainability platform of the Nespresso environmental cooperation. The Advanced technologies, such as roasters, will be used in the production in order to increase the efficiency and productivity of the site while reducing the environmental impact. Priority will be given to rail transport for the supply of raw materials and distribution of finished products. To this end, a new railway will be used to connect the plant to the existing railway network.
Nespresso will capitalize on the experience gained in sustainability in the production centers of Avenches and Orbe, in areas such as energy efficiency, waste sorting and recycling.
