EPD®, FSC®, LEED: a conscious choice.

Environmental certifications offer our partners and clients the certainty of competitive, technologically advanced, safe and sustainable products, in line with the demands of a world market that is attentive and rigorous to the great challenges posed by climate change.

CBI Europe contributes to the conscious and responsible development of the construction world with the acquisition of two fundamental certificates: EPD® (Environmental Product Declaration) certification for metal ceiling systems and for raised technical floors, FSC® / Chain of Custody (CoC) certification for all CBI Europe products that use wood and wood derivatives: raised technical floors, false ceilings, wall coverings, Wall System and Genesy mobile wall systems.

The origin of the raw materials used - together with other significant parameters relating to the production chain and use - also contributes to making our products fundamental for obtaining the scores required for LEED certification, the most widespread and rigorous international standard that certifies the sustainability of buildings.

EPD - ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCT DECLARATION®

The EPD assessment is based on the international ISO standards for LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and is verified by independent bodies. It allows us to know, assess and compare the environmental impact of each production aspect.
The Declaration, created on a voluntary basis, serves to define in detail the consumption of resources (materials, water, energy) and the impact on the surrounding environment in the various phases of the product's life cycle. The minimum steps considered range from the extraction of raw materials, their transport to the production site and the production itself, to the disposal of the product.
The results are presented in summary form through a series of environmental indicators, such as the amount of carbon dioxide emitted or GWP (Global Warming Potential) per declared unit of product (e.g. per tonne).
The EPD allows the environmental impacts of a product or service to be communicated to the market in a clear and transparent way.

It offers several advantages
· Optimise production processes by reducing costs and waste and monitoring the improvement of the environmental performance of products.
· Define in a transparent and objective way the environmental performance of a product throughout the production chain;
· Contribute to obtaining credits for sustainability protocols (e.g. LEED)
· Define all the information to support "green purchasing", both public and private.

FSC® - Chain of Custody (CoC)

FSC is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental international organisation, founded in 1993 to promote the correct and responsible management of forests and plantations according to strict environmental, social and economic standards.
FSC Chain of Custody certification provides a credible confirmation for the market access of products with environmentally and socially responsible sources. It ensures that FSC-certified material has been identified and separated from non-certified and uncontrolled material throughout its journey from forest to processing to market.

- Environmentally friendly
Environmentally sound forest management must ensure that the harvesting of wood and non-wood forest products maintains biodiversity, productivity and ecological processes.
- Socially useful
Socially useful forest management helps both the local population and society at large to enjoy long-term benefits.
- Economically sustainable
Economically sustainable forest management means that forest operations are structured and managed in such a way that they are sufficiently profitable, without generating financial profit at the expense of forest resources, the ecosystem, or the communities concerned.

LEED

CBI Europe is a member of the Green Building Council Italia (GBC Italia), a non-profit association which includes the most qualified Italian companies, associations and professional communities with the aim of starting a process of transformation of the building world through the application of LEED standards.

LEED is a voluntary certification programme that can be applied to any building (commercial or residential) and covers its entire life cycle, from design to construction.

LEED promotes a sustainability-oriented approach, assessing building performance in key areas: energy and water savings, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, materials and resources used, design and site selection. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the system is based on awarding 'credits' for each requirement. The sum of the credits makes up the 4 levels of certification: basic, gold, silver, platinum.

CBI Europe has contributed to the highest certifications in buildings all over the world.
